Collect
- Fresh and send in an enclosed container to prevent drying out with a slightly moistened saline gauze wrapped around specimen.
- Label specimen container with two patient identifiers (patient name, DOB, and/or MRN), collection date/time, and specimen site/source).
- Specimen must be accompanied by an EPIC ORDER or completed Surgical Pathology Request including two patient identifiers (patient name, DOB, and/or MRN), collection date/time, pertinent patient history, performing physician, and specimen site/source.
Unacceptable
- Submerge the sample in saline as this will cause a swelling artifact.
- Let the sample dry out which will cause enzyme activity to be lost.
- Schedule muscle biopsies on a Thursday or Friday.
- Do not use clamps.
