Collect
- In saline or RPMI (can be obtained from Surgical Pathology prior to procedure)
- Label specimen container with two patient identifiers (patient name, DOB, and/or MRN), collection date/time, and specimen site/source.
- Specimen must be accompanied by an EPIC ORDER or completed Surgical Pathology Request including a request for cytogenetic testing, chromosome analysis, and/or karyotype. It must also include OB/GYN, family, and performing physicians in order to contact for possible triage.
- Stillbirths - send samples of organs (We CANNOT TRIAGE SAMPLES >20 weeks or >350grams in the lab).
- Organs that work best are: kidney, lung, gonad and/or skin. These may be placed in the same vial.
- Placenta: MUST be placed in a separate vial due to the high possibility of contamination.
- Miscarriages - send products of conception (<20 weeks or <350 grams)
- Send a small sample of the products of conception.
- Include villous material if identifiable.
- There is no need to send the entire products of conception.
- After Hours
If products of conception are being delivered after 5:00 PM (e.g. from Emergency Room, etc.):- Contact Aspirus Security to be allowed access to the AIP laboratory to place the saline or RPMI covered specimen into the refrigerator.

Results from Associates in Pathology are sent 1-2 working days of receipt.
Results from Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene are sent 14-21 days of receipt.
